Prof. Emily Chan and CCOUC delegates attended the 6th UNISDR Asia Science Technology Academia Advisory Group (ASTAAG) Meeting in Beijing on 18 Apr 2018. The meeting was moderated by Prof. Peijun Shi and Prof. Rajib Shaw, the chair and co-chair of the group, with an aim to review the progress and achievements of committee members’ projects.
Prof. Shaw indicated that ASTAAG has achieved a number of regional, national and local goals since last meeting in Hong Kong in 2017, including organising regional and local conferences, promoting dialogues among different stakeholders (e.g. private sectors, local governments and civil societies), and documentation of good examples of co-designing solutions for disaster risk reduction.
During the meeting the group has discussed and reached agreements on continue expanding ASTAAG membership, collaborating with global science and technology advisory groups, developing working groups, and establishment of an online knowledge platform to monitor the progress and share research and data.
