CCOUC Director Prof Emily Chan was invited to give a presentation on 1 December 2020 in the 2-day Asia-Pacific Partnership for Disaster Risk Reduction (APP-DRR) Forum organised by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction - Regional Office for Asia and Pacific and conducted virtually.
The APP-DRR is a multi-stakeholder forum that includes governments, regional inter-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, United Nations and international organizations, and donors. It serves to monitor and support the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and the associated Asia Regional Plan and sub-regional plans. This round of APP-DRR Forum was to share and review the regional progress in disaster risk reduction and discuss key regional priorities in Asia-Pacific region.
The APP-DRR Forum identified key areas of priority action that will form inputs to the next Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), which was originally scheduled to be held in Brisbane of Australia in June 2020 but had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Collectively, the APP-DRR and APMCDRR form the regional platforms for disaster risk reduction in the Asia-Pacific region.
Prof Chan was the only invited speaker from the academia to give a presentation entitled “Key opportunities and strengthening the intersection between health and DRR” in the panel discussion of strengthening disaster risk governance.
