CCOUC Croucher Summer Course 2015

Sponsored by the Croucher Foundation, the 2nd cohort of Croucher Summer Course on Research Methodology on Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response was organized on 13-17 July 2015 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). World renowned speakers from the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Hong Kong were invited to deliver lectures on their respective expert fields, and 23 postgraduate students and early career researchers from as far as Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda, UK, Turkey, to Asian countries likeNepal, Bangladesh, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong have attended. The course aims to provide participants a global platform to receive public health trainings and network with peers to develop further research collaboration. 

Professor Emily Ying Yang Chan, director of CCOUC and Professor of the JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, delivered the first lecture to review public health approaches and research needs in acute medical and humanitarian responses. Experts include Professor Marvin Birnbaum, Emeritus Professor, Department of Medicine and Physiology, University of Wisconsin Madison; Dr Egbert Sondorp, Honorary Lecturer in Conflict & Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; Professor Virginia Murray, Consultant in Global Disaster Risk Reduction, Public Health England; and Professor Colin Graham from Accident & Emergency Medicine Academic Unit, CUHK delivered lectures about chronic emergencies, publication of disaster journals, clinical, epidemiological and policy research in disaster settings.

The next Croucher Summer Course will be held in 2017.
