CCOUC Director Prof Emily Chan and members Mr Sida Liu and Ms Carol Wong were invited to participate in the “Natural Disaster Health Emergency Forum 2018” of the Emergency Disaster Relief Forum 2018 co-organised by Health Emergency Branch of Chinese Preventive Medicine Association and Health Emergency Center of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Beichuan, Sichuan Province, China on 9 May 2018. Around 162 representatives from Provincial Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hospitals, public and private organisations as well as academic institutions were invited to participate in this forum to conduct in-depth exchange and discussion on emergency relief in China.
Since the forum coincided with the 10th anniversary of the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention helped arrange CCOUC team’s visit to the Beichuan earthquake site in the morning of 9 May. In the afternoon, Prof Emily Chan delivered a presentation entitled “Interpretation of International Strategy for Disaster Reduction—Sendai Framework”, which covered the issue of Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management (H-EDRM) and its interaction with various global policies since 2015. She also communicated with the other 10 experts who have been conducting research or taking various roles in the field of disaster and emergency health response.
