CCOUC co-organised a series of safety workshops on campus clean-up with various units at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) after the social unrest event in CUHK this month. There were damages of facilities on campus that need to be restored, and probable chemical residues including those from tear gas that need to be cleaned. Workshops were arranged before and after the resumption of operation of the University on 25 November 2019 to address different health concerns of CUHK staff members.
The first workshop was co-organised with the CUHK Employees General Union on 18 November 2019 and another three workshops with the CUHK Human Resources Office on 22, 27 and 28 November 2019. The workshops aimed at introducing to CUHK staff members some health and safety precautions for clean-ups, including the health risks, protection outfits and procedures, and potential symptoms of adverse health impact of secondary exposure to chemical residues. Talks were delivered by Prof. Kevin Kei Ching Hung, Dr. Pui Hong Chung and Dr. May Pui Shan Yeung of the CUHK Faculty of Medicine with Prof. Emily Ying Yang Chan, Prof. Kin Fai Ho and Prof. Kin On Kwok as consultants. Around 370 staff members attended the workshops and more than 300 watched the video recording online.
