Three CCOUC members attended the 19th World Congress on Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WCDEM) in Cape Town of South Africa 21-24 April 2015. The biennial meeting is one of the major international conferences in the field of disaster and emergency medicine.
The Congress serves as an important occasion for the Centre to share its recent research work. The five papers presented covered research findings from CCOUC Ethnic Minority Health Project and those on urban disaster preparedness. With the completion of the first cohort of the online course‘Public Health Principles in Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response’ in December 2014,insight and experience accumulated were also presented at the Congress.
During the Congress, the Centre also took the opportunity to share our work with the international humanitarian community in its exhibition booth, which allowed the Centre to showcase its work and achievements in education, knowledge transfer and community services in addition to its research output. The booth attracted academics, researchers and NGO workers from different parts of the world to discuss potential academic and knowledge transfer collaborations.
