The Second Core Group Meeting of the WHO Thematic Platform for Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management Research Network

As a Co-Chair of the WHO Thematic Platform for Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management Research Network (WHO Health-EDRM RN), CCOUC Director Prof Emily Chan participated in the network’s second core group meeting via zoom on 27 November 2020. The meeting highlighted the key Health EDRM RN ongoing and future activities including the newly published WHO Guidance on Research Methods for Health EDRM, the WHO Health EDRM Knowledge Hub and the WHO Health EDRM Research Agenda.

Prof Chan delivered a presentation entitled “Research Agenda and Strategy” in the meeting to introduce the network’s WHO Health EDRM Research Agenda, including the four Health EDRM research areas related to COVID-19 pandemic, namely readiness during the pandemic, governance mechanism and whole-of-society approach to manage the risks related to the pandemic, improving community resilience before, during and after the pandemic, and addressing mental health problems related to the pandemic.

More than 30 experts from WHO headquarters, WHO regional offices and partners attended the meeting to exchange ideas.
