The Third China Committee for Integrated Research on Disaster Risk

CCOUC Director Professor Emily Chan was appointed a member of the Third China Committee of Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR China) in the 1st meeting of the new committee of IRDR China in Beijing on 6 July 2017. IRDR is a decade-long research programme, co-sponsored by International Council of Science (ICSU), the International Social Science Council (ISSC), and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). CCOUC has been one of the 13 International Centres of Excellence under IRDR since November 2016, while IRDR China has facilitated both the academic exchange and technological development of disaster risk management in China. Professor Chan’s appointment provides an opportunity for stepping up CCOUC’s cooperation with other experts, authorities and organizations in this field in China.

In the meeting, CCOUC members also participated in discussion of the reports of IRDR China on its research work in natural disaster risks and learnt more about the progress of IRDR China and its future initiatives and goals. The meeting has laid the ground for future collaboration between members and allowed members to have a greater understanding of each other’s work in different disaster scenarios.
