Graduate Fellowship
Introduction
The CCOUC Graduate Fellowship is intended for doctoral candidates as well as master's degree holders, who are interested in the work of CCOUC. Candidates without a postgraduate degree will be recruited as undergraduate fellows as appropriate. The Fellowship seeks candidates from a wide range of backgrounds to foster inter-disciplinary exchange of ideas and is awarded based upon the strength and originality of the candidates' research proposals.
Objectives
The aim of the CCOUC Graduate Fellowship is to provide early-career individuals with training in disaster and public health theoretical frameworks so that fellows are empowered to engage in community disaster-preparedness capacity building and problem solving. Fellows are welcome to bring existing projects from their academic programmes for collaborative consultancy as well as knowledge transfer.
Structure
Through research, seminars, and other networking opportunities, CCOUC Graduate Fellows will work to develop a better understanding of the critical challenges related to preparing and managing disasters, and spark new ideas for sound solutions. Typical projects include disaster case study, guidelines review and development, field-based needs assessment and evaluation, etc. Specific areas of work will be delegated to the fellows depending on their particular interests and areas of expertise.
Duration
Fellowship period lasts from three months to six months, depending on the project scope.
Target Applicants
- Scholars with a master's degree or equivalent qualification. Applicants must conduct research in the field of disaster and medical humanitarian response and must submit a specific and detailed research proposal indicating why CCOUC is an appropriate place to carry out the study. Projects that deepen and enrich the research conducted within CCOUC thematic areas are encouraged.
Application
Applicants are evaluated on the merit of their proposals, their ability to carry out the proposed research and/or project, the likelihood that the research can be completed during the requested fellowship period, and the extent to which CCOUC can contribute to the proposed research and/or project agenda.

Spring (on or after 15th January): 1st September

Funding
Applicants are encouraged to solicit their own funding. A modest allowance might be provided to overseas applicants to subsidise lodging, meals, and local expenses on a case by case basis. Subsidies for travelling to Hong Kong might also be provided to eligible candidates.
