Health Intervention trip to south-east Guizhou
During late January 2015, CCOUC team re-visited Nanjiang （南江） Village for conducting a health intervention trip. Located in south-east Guizhou, the village is composed of residents all belonging to Dong ethnic group （侗族）. The intervention trip was a follow-up of the previous needs assessment visit CCOUC team paid during November 2014. The subsequent analysis of that needs assessment visit identified several health areas that required attention and intervention, namely fire prevention, waste disposal, as well as nutrition information of packaged food. The purpose of the current intervention trip was to carry out on-site health promotion activities to the three sub-villages Gaozhai, Cenlan and Cenwu （高寨、岑烂、岑吾） of Nanjing Village.
The team comprised of CCOUC staff members who supervised three student intervention teams (a total of 13 undergraduate and postgraduate students) targeting the three health areas aforementioned. A total of two intervention activities were held in the drum tower -- a place for meetings and social events of the sub-villages. Students used drama performance, verbal presentation of health posters, as well as question-and-answer technique to deliver the health messages to the attending villagers. The team also used questionnaire survey to assess the effectiveness of the intervention activities.
Overall it was a successful trip with consensus and appreciation from the village head and his fellow villagers. An evaluation trip back to Nanjing Village will be scheduled to assess the sustainability of the intervention outcomes.
