Site Selection and Health Needs Assessment Trip to Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province and Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province
CCOUC Director Professor Emily Chan led a team of five to Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province and Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province from 12 to 16 April 2019. The objectives of the trip include accessing the possibility of deploying health emergency and disaster risk management training for undergraduates and postgraduates of the CUHK in the year 2019-2020, accessing local health needs and exploring logistics arrangement with the local partners for the trip implementation. On 12 and 13 April, the team visited 2 Qiang ethnic communities in Li County and Songpan County, Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. On 14 and 15 April, the team travelled to Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province and visited Achang and Lisu communities in Longchuan County and Yingjiang County respectively. During the visits, the team not only arranged interviews with local villagers, the village heads and the village doctors, they also interviewed the households to explore their health and living conditions as well as emerging health concerns.
