Site Selection and Health Needs Assessment Trip: Liguang Village, Liming Township, Yulong County, Lijiang, Yunnan Province

CCOUC Director Professor Emily Chan led a four-person exploration team to conduct health needs assessment for the future health education activities in Liguang Village of Yunnan Province from 23 to 25 February 2018. Liguang Village is situated 126 km away from Yulong County and consists of 13 sub-village groups with 364 household and a population of 1,378. Infrastructure such as road, electricity and telecommunication has been completed to connect all households and sub-villages.

The objectives of this trip include evaluating the feasibility of establishing the training site for the Ethnic Minority Health Project in the year 2018-2019, as well as to engage in face-to-face discussion with the local partners regarding the possibility of future technical knowledge transfer activities.

In addition, the team conducted interviews with the village head and village doctor, explored the health needs and topics of interest amongst villagers for the health intervention trip in June 2018. The interviews found that villagers’ major concerns include waste and water management, as well as fire prevention and response.
