Health Needs Assessment trip to southeastern Guizhou

 

CCOUC team visited remote rural village in southeastern Guizhou Province in early November 2014 to prepare for further visits and health interventions in the coming year.

The team conducted health needs assessment in the remote Nanjiang Village （南江村） in collaboration with our NGO partner Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation on 3-7 November 2014. Nanjiang Village is located in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, in southeastern Guizhou, bordering Hunan Province to the east and Guangxi Province to the south. All villagers in Nanjiang Village belong to the Dong ethnic group （侗族）. Nanjiang Village will be one of the project villages of the Public Health Train-the-Trainer Project supported by Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation.

Through household questionnaire survey, focus group discussions and key stakeholders interviews, the team has collected information related to health situations and needs of the community. Several CCOUC team members have also held a meeting with officials from Guizhou Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the provincial capital city Guiyang （贵阳）. As this project will be a multi-disciplinary collaboration between different parties, a full-day workshop was held before the end of the trip, with another key project partner from Tamkang University in Taiwan responsible for rural village planning, and other INGOs and local experts to share their knowledge and experience of working in Guizhou. A broad framework was suggested as the output of this workshop, which also indicates the strategic direction of the project in Nanjiang village.
