Health Needs Assessment Trip to Dacao Village and Xinhong Village in Jilin Province

A CCOUC team of 14 members visited Dacao Village and Xinhong Village in Yitong Manchu Autonomous County, Jilin Province from 17 to 21 November 2016 to conduct health needs assessment for the local households. This trip served as the first phase of the Ethnic Minority Health Project cycle, followed by a health intervention trip within the coming year for the mentioned villages.

The themes of the assessment trip comprised locals’ awareness and knowledge of global climatic change, disaster preparedness, waste management, accessibility to medical services personal hygiene and etc.

Aside from assessing the households’ health needs, the trip also aimed at investigating the relationship between villagers’ health conditions and health knowledge and their ethnic background. First-hand experience in field studies was also provided for students to know more about the lifestyle and health status of ethnic minorities in Northeast China.
